So being me, before I went on my Thailand trip, of course I used my best friend google to figure out more about each places. After researching, overall review tells me that it’s just a nice place to go visit and take pictures. Almost everyone say it is expensive to shop and not much talks about the food and other attractions.
So here am I sharing my experience with you in a personal level because I think Asiatique or Asiatique The Riverfront don’t get enough credit from the World Wide Web.
I’ve actually jot down “Do Not Shop Here” in my itinerary to serve as a reminder so I know where to spend my money lavishly. Coincidently, Asiatique is the first shopping place I’ll visit throughout my six days Thailand experience. The more reason for me to make sure I secure my money tightly.
When I was at Asiatique…
As expected, I was swept away by the beauty of the place. I was there pretty early though, around 5pm because I had dinner reservations at 6.30pm and a show at 8pm. So overall, it was a quite a rush.
I have to agree, shopping is a little pricier but if you are good at the bargaining game, it’s actually not too bad. Plus, I realised they have quite a few custom/handmade, unique fashion items there that’s rather exclusive as well as traditional-looking Thai wears were pretty reasonable for the design and material. Also, for some reason, I saw an enormous amount of bath bombs, soaps, lotions and everything related to scent. Besides that, Asiatique is also a great place to shop for souvenirs.
As the day grew dimmer, it was time for dinner. I was guided to Braodwalk, Warehouse 7, a seafood restaurant named KoDang Talay. It wasn’t a pleasant first impression as I was taken a back by an off-putting smell inside the beautifully decorated restaurant. It was quite a shame because they are known for their wide choices of exotic seafood. Despite the smell, there were still a lot of people filling up almost the entire restaurant that night. Personally, the food was quite simple but good. A few recommendations would be the Prawn Fried with Mung Bean Glass Noodles and Curry Crab. Though, heads up, some might feel this place is a tad bit pricy.
Then there was Muay Thai Live. It felt rather grand walking up those red-carpeted stairs of The Stage Asiatique. Everything was so… showbiz with all the glitz and glamour. Well, I wouldn’t have accepted anything less from a worldclass Bangkok must-see stage show. It wasn’t too bad, other than the occasional cheesy modern storyline at the end, I was quite intrigued by the history and the different types of Muay Thai techniques and stunts. Plus their sound system was just perfect. Definitely a worth watching show if you are looking to learn a little bit more about Thai culture. Okay fine, this is also a place where you can stare at guys with hot bodies without guilt.
If I were to go back there…
I will first have to make sure I have all the time in the world to spend at Asiatique. Walk around more because I realise I didn’t managed to walk the entire place. Definitely take a boat ride to other places, such as River City Shopping Complex, just for the fun of it. Try to catch another show, Calypso Cabaret that caught my eye just by looking at their performance rundown on their website and I love watching ladyboys in action, they just have a certain charm that a real lady can’t portray. No, I don’t plan to go on the Ferris Wheel cause is only meant to look good in pictures from the outside. Finally, give myself a chance to try other famous restaurants at Asiatique such as Baan Khanitha and Checkmate.
