See another side of Sydney and beyond on the breathtaking Pacific Coast. While you're on the road, you'll also discover other major Australian attractions that can become the perfect add-on to your trip. The five-day road trip from Sydney to Gold Coast is famous for its panoramic views and range of activities.
While there are many stops worth making along the way, here are three unmissable ones we recommend. On your mark, get set, drive!
While in Port Stephens, be sure to visit The Worimi Conservation Lands, the largest sand dune system in Australia covering 4,200 hectares. This sprawling landscape includes 1,800 hectares of forests as well as 32 kilometres of beach — and the ever-shifting sand dunes that can reach up to 40 metres in height.
Inside tip: From 4WD tours and quad biking to camel rides, fishing, and surfing, there’s plenty to please adventurers. But you must go sandboarding. It's a thrilling ride to zip down the 40-metre slope while soaking up the sheer magnificence of the dunes.
The beautiful beaches of Nelson Bay in Port Stephens await you just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Sydney. This is a dream destination for those who love water sports. Get your fill of aquatic activities, be it swimming, surfing, snorkelling or diving.
Inside tip: For a truly memorable holiday experience, don't miss out on the chance to swim with wild dolphins. The four-hour programme commences at sunrise and includes a continental breakfast. You will be provided with equipment and training to prepare you for your close-up with either the short-beaked common dolphin or the oceanic bottlenose dolphin.
If you love cute creatures, drop by the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie. Visitors are welcome to walk the grounds and observe the koalas under care.
Inside tip: Join the Walk and Talk Tour at 3pm to watch the koalas being fed and see for yourself how these furry creatures are being cared for.
