WHERE TO GO WHEN IN YOGYAKARTA?

4 Must Visit In And Near Yogyakarta

#1 Mount Merapi

This mountain is known to be one of the most active volcanoes on earth, thus it’s pretty normal if you don’t feel like going too close to it as it is known to be a sitting time bomb. It has a peak of 2,911 meters above sea level and it’s known to still rumbles and coughs occasionally. There are a number of adventurous hikers who love to retrace the hot lava flow from the last eruption but if you are not up for climbing the Mount Merapi, you could enjoy the beauty of Mount Merapi from Kaliadem Village.

#2 Borobudur Temple

This temple is famous for its built without using any kind of cement or mortar! The structure is like a set of massive interlocking Lego blocks held together without any glue. It was once being buried under the volcanic ash of Mount Merapi but it was rediscovered in 1815 and restoration took 8 years to complete. Now it’s known to be one of the world’s most valuable treasures.

#3 Timang Beach

Timang Beach is a pretty new popular tourist spot, it used to be just an isolated spot and it’s not an easy location to visit as you’ll need to arrange a car rental to get to the suggested parking spot and then take an Ojek (mototbike taxi) to reach the hut. The cool part about this place is riding the Gondola that was originally used by lobster fishermen. You’ll reach an island known as Panjang Island which is lobster habitat. Yes, everything is charged by the locals, we’ve heard some said that they could negotiate as their charges is a little up there. If you don’t know any locals to bring you there, it’s best for you to join a tour if you are interested to visit this place so you won’t have to worry about being overly charged for a little fun Gondola ride.

#4 Pinus Pengger Forest

Pinus Pengger Forest is a place filled with tall pine trees that not only makes the place beautiful but also superbly peaceful. Besides that, they have recently constructed a viewing deck as well as other unique structures within the forest. Thanks to these new additions, some say is now worth visiting during the night too if you are interested in night photography.
