Gangwon-do is the snowiest province in Korea and have the greatest natural snow. For about 66 days from November to March, Gangwon-do has an average of 250cm of snow. The average temperature is about -4.8 degree Celsius throughout winter, which maintains optimal ski conditions.
Gangwon-do has hosted 41 international games, including the 99 Winter Asian Games, FIs Alpine Ski Competition, FIs Continental Cup Ski Competition, FIs International Snowboard Competition, Isu International Ice Skating Competition, 2009 Snowboard World Championships, Biathlon World Championships, and many more since 1997. One significant upcoming big event is the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.
