Experience the unique Fire Dragon Dance and learn its history
Catch the unique Fire Dragon Dance firsthand in Tai Hang, a major feature of Mid-Autumn celebrations in Hong Kong. The ancient ritual dates back to 1880, where the people of Tai Hang village miraculously fought off a plague with a huge dragon and fire dance. Since then, the custom has been followed every year and became one of the must-go extraordinary events in Hong Kong. For three nights, nearly 300 performers would come together to maneuver a 67-metre-long fire dragon that has a 48 kilogram head, 32 sectioned body and covered with over 70,000 incense sticks. It is led by men holding up 2 'pearls', or pomelos studded with numerous incense sticks and accompanied by drummers.
