"There’s been a murder!" And so begins your task to uncover the evidence and solve the clues needed to complete Escape Hunt, one of the most enjoyable activities in central Bangkok. It is essentially a live puzzle game in which your group of two to five players have to piece together evidence against the clock. The game is designed for anyone aged seven and over, and is a great activity for a families, friends or co-workers to play. Now on to the third generation of games, Escape Hunt even has something new to offer guests who have previously played and would like another shot at playing detective.

Escape Hunt Bangkok is located directly across from Terminal 21 Shopping Mall in Interchange 21 Tower (the building with the huge Citibank sign covering it) that is major plus point as it is connected to both the BTS Skytrain at Asok and the MRT Underground at Sukhumvit. Public transport is strongly advised, as traffic in this area is severe most of the day. 

Each game is private meaning you will never play as part of another group and there is always a game master assigned to each room to offer assistance if needed, although the particularly astute of you might not need any help at all to solve the crime. The game’s creator has a background in psychology and business consulting and devises games which require lateral thinking skills and teamwork, without the fear factor sometimes associated with these kinds of live ‘escape’ games. Escape Hunt takes one hour to play and once you are locked in the room the clock starts ticking.

There are six games at Escape Hunt, with four game rooms onsite and two different scenarios to play: a murder mystery set 100 years ago and 50 years ago, meaning if you come as a group of more than five, you can play head-to-head to see who can solve the mystery quickest. As already mentioned, the games have been completely revamped with fresh story lines and puzzles so return visitors have another chance to experience a game afresh. The entire premises are wheelchair accessible and games are bilingual so it is suitable for Thais and foreigners to play together. In the final two games players must undertake a kind of treasure hunt around Terminal 21 Shopping Mall nearby, solving clues to crack the code and stop a bomb from destroying the city. 

This kind of mentally stimulating, all weather activity was sorely missing from Bangkok and has been extremely popular since its inception in the summer of 2013. In fact, Escape Hunt Bangkok has proven so successful that more than 10 franchises have opened across the world, although Escape Hunt Bangkok remains the original and the place where all new games are created, meaning we get to play them first. Escape Hunt costs from 600 baht per person for a five person game, moving up to 900 baht per person for a two person game. Booking in advance is imperative and can be done over the phone or in person. Use all the sleuthing tricks in the book, just like Sherlock Holmes, and afterwards enjoy a cup of tea and dress up in the famous deerstalker and tweed cape. The staff at Escape Hunt a noticeably friendly bunch and are happy to chat after the game and offer advice on other things to do in Bangkok.
