Travelling is fun and can be highly educational but some of the world’s beautiful places can be trouble for any foreigners. We’ve all heard about the horror thefts stories and scams, so here’re a few ways to protect yourself.

1. Be aware of your surroundings. Look if anyone is eyeing at you.
2. If you get spits, squirt or spill anything on you, hold tight to your belonging and walk away fast. Do not entertain anyone who tries to apologies because that’s when they use one hand to “wipe off” the dirt on you while using another hand to pick your pocket.
3. By now, most thieves already know that we carry our bags in front. Don’t be an easy target, always still make sure that your keep your arms on it or near it.
4. Avoid looking confuse. Try to always look like you know where you are even if you don’t have a single clue.
5. Subways or trains are packed with all sorts of pickpockets. Avoid using the train during peak hours where there are usually crowd and is always best to keep all your belongings in a zipped bag carrying in front of you. FIY, the locals also practice these precaution methods.
6. Don’t sleep when you are in a train or bus, you’re just making it easy for them. If you are tired, take a mint, sweet or something to keep you awake till you reach your stop.
7. If you have to travel on a night bus, most likely you will sleep on the journey. Conceal your valuables under your clothing and keep bags as close to you as possible. If possible, travel with a partner.
8. Don’t trust anyone who approaches you. Clearly, you’re a foreigner yourself; you won’t know about the place you’re visiting either.
