Most of us will be travelling back to our hometowns by car, it’s important to take note of some of these tips when you travel during peak periods:
Get enough rest
If you are the driver, please ensure that you are well rested for the journey.
Avoid heavy meal before travelling
Food coma is real. So please, nothing too much before your long drive or you’ll get really sleepy.
Focus on the journey, not ETA
Especially when you are driving alone, we just want to get to our destination asap. However, this time, try to prepare yourself for a nice pleasurable drive instead of pressuring yourself on the arrival time. At least even if you are caught in traffic, you won’t get as cranky.
Mini bar
Bring along some of your favourite snacks and lots of water.
Distract your anger
Reacting out of anger could lead to more build-ups. Count to 10 and breathe before reacting to stress.
Switch to stick
If you have the manual drive option, that would be great.
Stop when needed
Don’t try to be a hero. Stop at the nearest R&R and take a break if needed.
Posture matters
By sitting up straight when you are driving will result in better circulation and heightened attention.
Crank it up
Play your favourite upbeat music or take this opportunity to listen to a couple of audio books to increase alertness.
