ITINERARY / SCHEDULE
DAY 1 - Urumqi (Arrival)

Upon arrival Urumqi International Airport, local representative will pick up and transfer to hotel check in. 

After check-in, enjoy free time to explore. If time permits, you may visit recommended attractions at your own expense (transportation not included).  

Recommended Attractions:  
1. Urumqi Grand Bazaar Night Market (Free entry):  
Taste authentic Xinjiang cuisine and experience the vibrant local culture. This is where warm-hearted "Guli" girls and hospitable "Bay" boys mingle, offering an immersive ethnic experience.  

2. Red Hill Park (Free entry):  
The landmark of Urumqi. From the hilltop, enjoy panoramic city views where ancient charm meets modern energy – a perfect photography spot.  

Urumqi (also called Dihua in history) is the capital city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to the Guinness Book of Records, Urumqi has earned a place as the most remote city from any sea in the world. 

Travel Tips:

  • The weather of Xinjiang/ Silk Road differs in provinces, temperature difference between day and night gets bigger from southeast to northeast. Night time in summer, take along enough warm clothes even if you plan to visit in summer; Day time in summer, T-shirt and short are more suitable. Also, pay attention to weather changes before visit, especially, the weather forecast for sandstorms.
  • Strong UV radiation is common at Xinjiang attractions. Prepare sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. 
  • Due to the long distance between city to city, it recommended bring along with some snacks with you on the road.
  • Due to the limited speed of highways and security check points on the roads, the distance and time between the cities listed in the itinerary are for reference only. 01:30 PM - 04:30 PM : Witness dramatic elevation changes revealing crimson rock formations carved by millennia into undulating red mountains. Stop at the Duku Highway Terminal Monument for photos before proceeding to Kuqa. 

04:30 PM - 06:00 PM : Explore Kuqa Restan Road Cultural Street. Walk ancient cobblestone paths where every step echoes a millennium of history. This living heritage site preserves the legacy of the Silk Road's glory and evolution.

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM：Visit Kizil Thousand Buddha Caves (Real-name reservation required via WeChat mini-program; book 1 week in advance). As a pivotal Silk Road grotto complex where Buddhism spread eastward, these caves once echoed with sacred chants. Today, only weathered murals remain in silent chambers - a poignant testament to time. At the entrance, the statue of monk Kumārajīva observes modern visitors with serene, closed eyes.  

12:30 PM - 01:30 PM：Lunch at your own arrangement (group sharing or individual dining available).  

01:30 PM - 04:30 PM：Journey to Wensu Tomur Grand Canyon.  

04:30 PM - 08:00 PM：Explore the Tianshan Grand Canyon in Wensu (also known as the Tömür Grand Canyon).Transfer to the scenic area shuttle bus to enter the canyon, which was once a vital passage along the ancient Muzart Route—an important link between the northern and southern parts of the Tianshan Mountains. Locally referred to as the “Kuduluk Grand Canyon,” its name in Uyghur means “thrilling and mysterious.”The Wensu Grand Canyon is home to rare geological wonders: ancient rock salt formations seldom seen in China, bizarre yardang landforms unique to western China, and giant karst erosion landscapes found nowhere else in the world. It's hailed as a “living geological evolution museum” of Xinjiang. Entering the canyon is like stepping into a grand and exquisite natural art gallery, full of majestic beauty and awe-inspiring scenery.

04:00 PM - 07:00 PM：Upon arrival in Kashgar, we will first head to the Kashgar Tourist Service Center to apply for the border permit. After that, we’ll take a leisurely stroll through the Old City of Kashgar. Within this historic district lies a famous traditional teahouse, popular on social media. Order a pot of southern Xinjiang’s signature fruit tea, along with a few baked stuffed buns (kao baozi), and enjoy a relaxing moment as local Uyghur elders perform traditional music. This is the perfect way to experience the unique, unhurried pace of life in southern Xinjiang.In the evening, just across from the old city, you’ll find the famous Kashgar Night Market, where an array of delicious local specialties awaits to satisfy your taste buds.

08:30 AM - 12:00 PM：Journey south from Kashgar. As altitude increases, enter the dramatic Gez Canyon – where towering cliffs pierce the sky, revealing wind-sculpted rock formations. Continue along the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway with panoramic snow-capped peaks.  

12:00 PM - 01:30 PM：Arrive at Baisha Lake (White Sand Lake). Self-arranged local lunch.  

01:30 PM - 04:30 PM：After your meal, visit the stunning Baisha Lake in Bulunkou.Gaze into the distance at the majestic White Sand Mountain, and admire the shimmering reflections on the lake’s surface up close. Don’t forget to capture the beauty—and yourself—in this breathtaking landscape with your camera.The Pamir Plateau, whose name means “Roof of the World” in Tajik, is awe-inspiring but also comes with high altitude. Please avoid running, jumping, or any strenuous activity during the visit to prevent altitude sickness or discomfort.The China-Pakistan Friendship Highway cuts across the plateau like a silver ribbon. As we ascend from Kashgar, the elevation gradually increases and the mountains rise dramatically, towering into the sky.

04:30 PM - 07:00 PM：Head to Tashkurgan (Tajik Autonomous County).
On the way, enjoy a distant view of Mount Muztagh Ata, with yaks and sheep scattered across the vast grasslands like brushstrokes on a painting. Even the sky here looks like it comes with a natural filter—every frame is a picture-perfect moment.

08:30 AM -12:00 PM：Depart for the Waqia Panlong Ancient Road, located in Waqia Township of Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County, Kashgar Prefecture. Locally known as the Waqia Road, this mountain road features over 600 hairpin turns along a 75-kilometer stretch. The contrast between the black asphalt and the earth-toned mountains, framed by snow-capped peaks in the distance, makes this road an iconic feature of the Pamir Plateau.
En route, pass by the Bandier Blue Lake, which maintains its deep blue color year-round. The lake is surrounded by gray-white rock formations and snow-covered peaks, creating a chilling yet mysterious beauty.

12:00 PM - 01:00 PM：Lunch at your own expense, then return to Kashgar.

01:00 PM - 03:00 PM：Drive down the Pamir Plateau via the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway. Along the way, spot wild yaks and enjoy distant views of Kongur Jiubie Peak and the majestic Muztagh Ata.

03:00 PM - 05:00 PM：Visit Karakul Lake, where you can take in the wide, rippling waters and strike your best poses for photos. Towering snow-capped peaks such as Muztagh Ata, Kongur Peak, and Kongur Jiubie Peak encircle the lake year-round. On clear days, the lake reflects the entire snow mountain range, offering an awe-inspiring contrast between the still waters and the lofty peaks—adding a magical and majestic charm to the scenery.
