Both towers were originally built during the Ming Dynasty and were used in ancient times for timekeeping and the announcement of official decrees, giving rise to the phrase “morning bell and evening drum.” Situated at the historical core of the old city, the square is a major crossroads surrounded by bustling commercial areas, the Muslim Quarter, and key city roads, where history and modern urban life blend seamlessly.
