Valladolid, this town known for its old neighborhoods and colonial buildings from times of the Spanish colony. Departure to visit Izamal, after the arrival of the Spanish, the Maya pyramids and temples were destroyed and colonial buildings and churches built in their place. You’ll find the Convento de San Antonio de Padua, an enormous Franciscan monastery. Take a tour of the yellow city of Izamal in a calesa (horse-drawn carriage).

Merida, the vibrant capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan, has a rich Mayan and colonial heritage. The city’s focal point is Plaza de la Independencia, bordered by the fortresslike Merida Cathedral and white limestone Iglesia de la Tercera Orden, both colonial-era churches built using relics from ancient Mayan temples. The Casa de Montejo, a 16th-century mansion, is a landmark of colonial plateresque architecture. Many Mexicans agree on Merida being one of the most beautiful cities in the Yucatan Peninsula.  It’s also one of the safest in the country, highly cultural, artsy and only 20 miles away from the beach.

DAY 3 - Merida - Uxmal / Kabah - Merida

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure at 0900am to tour about The Archaeological Site of Uxmal & Kabah.

Discover the mystical allure of two of the Yucatan’s most significant archeological sites on a full-day tour to Kabah and Uxmal from Merida. Learn about ancient architectural styles and Mayan mysteries as you explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites with a knowledgeable guide. Discover legendary buildings like the Pyramid of the Magician, the Governer;s Palace and the Arch of Kabah.

Uxmal is by far the most dramatic of all the hill and flatland archeological sites in the Yucatan. It dates from 600-1000 A.D. and is known for the stunning beauty of its architecture. Here we see thousands upon thousands of cut stones detailing every edifice in what is known as the Puuc style of architecture. As you enter Uxmal time seems to slow, giving this Mayan site a dreamy, magical feel. No other place has such a multitude of ornate and complex artistry.

Uxmal´s most famous structure, the Temple of the Magician, is an awesome feat of building prowess. This temple was rebuilt three times; this is where Uxmal got its name, which means ¨thrice built¨. Towering above the surrounding jungle and crowned with intricately carved stonework, it is a treasure of the ancient world. This massive pyramid is also known as the Temple of the Dwarf. In Mayan myth and legend it is said that Uxmal was built in one night by a dwarf with the help of his adopted mother who was known to be a witch. Who was this little guy? What did he and his sorceress mother do to shape the destiny of Uxmal? The ruins at Uxmal also have an equally stunning pyramid known as Temple of the Macaw. Together these two pyramids anchor the site and give it a grace blessed by the gods in strength.

Next, visit Kabah, which is the second largest Maya center of the Puuc region of western Yucatan, south of Merida. Kabah is south of Uxmal, connected to that site by a grand 18 kilometres (11 miles) long raised pedestrian causeway 5 metres (16 feet) wide with monumental arches at each end. Kabah is the second largest ruin of the Puuc region after Uxmal.

The name "Kabah" or "Kabaah" is usually taken to be archaic Maya language for "strong hand". This is a pre-Columbian name for the site, mentioned in Maya chronicles. An alternative name is Kabahaucan or "royal snake in the hand".

Mexican style of lunch at local restaurant was included during the sightseeing, the tour end at 1600pm and back to the hotel.

  • Head to Tulum. The ruins aren't quite as impressive, but it's closer and there are lots of great open-air restaurants downtown!
  • Xel-Ha Park- plenty for the whole family to enjoy at this ecotourism hotspot. Swim with dolphins, manatees, and stingrays when you're not relaxing amid the spectacular scenery!
