ITINERARY / SCHEDULE
DAY 1 - Lima (Arrival)

Upon arrival at Lima airport, you will be met by local representative and escorted to your hotel. Local representative will brief you around the attractions and facilities that the city has.

Rest of the day is free at own leisure, you might explore this beautiful city.

In the north is the city of Caral, the oldest civilization of America, and to the south is the Archaeological Complex of Pachacamac. Lima's history predates the colonial presence in the country. The establishment of the viceroyalty transformed the city into the main political and administrative center of South America. During this period, significant churches, monasteries, mansions and balconies were built. The arrival of modernity didn’t transform the historic center, which is recognized as a World Heritage Site.

Museums with great works of art, archaeological sites, beaches, the boardwalk, valleys, natural reserves, the nightlife, the thrill of adventure sports, and the exquisite cuisine gives Peru’s capital an authentic personality and makes tourism in Lima a unique experience in the country.

After breakfast at the hotel, prepare for a day of high drama with a trip to the breathtaking Condor Cross lookout. The thrill of the experience is enhanced by the natural spectacle of huge condors flying over the canyon. Watch in awe as these graceful birds of prey glide over the canyon, patrolling it with military discipline. Descend to the valley floor to discover some of the rustic towns on the banks of the River Colca such as Chivay, Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma and Yanque, where quaint colonial churches are as much as part of the scenery as the peaks of the Andes. There are also stops at the lookouts of Antahuilque and Choquetico to admire majestic views of the valley. From there, go to Puno through the detour to Patahuasi. Along the way, observe stone forests and sky-blue lagoons populated by cranes. After 4 hours, arrive at Puno after this amazing journey.

Board the boat again to continue the voyage of discovery at timeless Taquile island, where the Quechua-speaking residents have maintained their ancient social system and earned a reputation for their fine hand-weaving technique. The ride to Cusco is set to have interesting stops on route. The first stop is made in the town of Pucara and the Pucara Lithic Museum. After a brief break at La Raya, the highest pass on our way to Cusco (at 4313 m.a.s.l), the bus stops at Sicuani where lunch is served. We then head on to Racchi, where Wiracocha Temple, an Inca site built in honour of Wiracocha, a powerful Andean God, is located. The rectangular construction shows thatched rooftops 20 meters above the ground, which are thought to be the highest in the Inca Empire. Later, we visit the Church of Andahuaylillas, known as the "Sistine Chapel of the Americas" owing to the high-quality pieces of art it shelters. The church was built during the XVI century on top of Wari remains. Today it houses a beautifully restored Colonial organ. DAY 8 - Cusco

Breakfast at the hotel. Start your tour today by visiting Coricancha, also known as 'The Temple of the Sun', which was built by order of Inca Pachacuti and at the arrival of the Spaniards became the basis for the construction of the Santo Domingo Convent. Walk to the Cathedral, the most imposing monument of the Main Square, whose construction was completed in 1654. Afterwards, head to Sacsayhuamán, one of the emblematic buildings of the Incas; an immense fortress built with large stones, whose transfer and assembling is still a mystery. Every June 24, during the winter solstice, the festival of Inti Raymi, in which the sun is worshipped, is recreated. Continue to Qenqo, an archaeological complex of religious use, where agricultural rituals were held. To conclude the tour, visit Puka Pukara, seven kilometres from the city. Puka Pukara, which means 'red fort,' was an architectural complex of supposed military use with multiple environments, plazas, baths, aqueducts, and towers. It is believed that it was used by the Inca entourage while the leader rested in Tambomachay. After the tour, you will transfer back to the hotel for rest for the day.

In Aguas Calientes there is a craft market, restaurants and hotels of different categories for those who prefer to spend the night at the foot of the mountain and climb it early the following morning. Finally, after a short transfer by bus, reach Machu Picchu, a masterpiece of engineering and architecture that served as a sanctuary and retreat for the Inca Pachacuti. Machu Picchu, which means "Old Mountain", and is considered a World Heritage by the UNESCO and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at Café Inkaterra. • In all train services to Machu Picchu, the passenger can carry only hand luggage (backpack, bag or briefcase) weighing no more than 5kg / 11lb on the train to / from Machu Picchu. You will find your luggage at the chosen hotel. Allowed size: 62 linear inches 157cm (height + length + width)
  • Bring bottle of water and a rain jacket, even if it looks like a beautiful sunny day. And speaking of sun, remember that the ozone layer over Peru is compromised. That, combined with the altitude, makes the sun extremely strong here so wear a hat and use plenty of high SPF sunscreen. And keep some one soles coins in your pocket. You’ll need them to access the lone bathroom at the entrance to the site. To use the bathroom or grab food, you’ll have to exit the gates, so bring your passport and hang onto your ticket. You’ll need to show both to re-enter the citadel.
  • If you experience altitude sickness, definitely find yourself some coca leaves. They are very cheap and you can find them anywhere. Chew on them or buy it in tea form. It will calm your stomach and ease your dizziness.
  • The current restrictions on visits to Machu Picchu allow a maximum stay of 4 hours in the citadel accompanied by a guide during the first entry. If the visitor tours an alternate route (Mountain Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu) the passenger will have 3 hours to for this purpose, additional to the 4 hours in the citadel. If the passenger wishes to enter the citadel again during the afternoon shift or the next day, he must acquire previously an additional ticket to enter in the new shift. There is no ticket sale in the archaeological zone.
