ITINERARY / SCHEDULE
DAY 1 - Lima (Arrival)

Upon arrival at Lima airport, you will be met by local representative and escorted to your hotel. Local representative will brief you around the attractions and facilities that the city has.

Rest of the day is free at own leisure, you might explore this beautiful city.

In the north is the city of Caral, the oldest civilization of America, and to the south is the Archaeological Complex of Pachacamac. Lima's history predates the colonial presence in the country. The establishment of the viceroyalty transformed the city into the main political and administrative center of South America. During this period, significant churches, monasteries, mansions and balconies were built. The arrival of modernity didn’t transform the historic center, which is recognized as a World Heritage Site.

Museums with great works of art, archaeological sites, beaches, the boardwalk, valleys, natural reserves, the nightlife, the thrill of adventure sports, and the exquisite cuisine gives Peru’s capital an authentic personality and makes tourism in Lima a unique experience in the country.

DAY 2 - Lima

Wake up to breakfast in the hotel before hitting the streets of Lima’s old town; a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site packed with fascinating historical buildings. Start with the Larco Museum, located in the traditional Pueblo Libre district, which is housed in a beautifully restored viceregal mansion built on a pre-Columbian pyramid. The museum boasts the world’s most complete pre-Hispanic collection of gold and silver objects, as well as pieces of erotic art. Then visit Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conquistador Francisco Pizarro to Jeronimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. This is the only house from that time that to this day has always been owned by the same family. Continue to a scenic tour in the colonial downtown, which originates and spreads out from the Main Square. Here you can appreciate the grandiose architecture of the Spanish Empire and be amazed by Lima´s Cathedral. Erected in the 16th century, this building took more than 80 years to complete. After the tour, you’ll be transferred back to the hotel. (Additonal Optional tour available)

Paracas is a town on Peru's west coast. It's known for beaches, like El Chaco, set on sheltered Paracas Bay. The town is a launch point for the uninhabited Ballestas Islands, home to sea lions, pelicans and Humboldt penguins. Rugged, wildlife-rich Paracas National Reserve spans desert, ocean, islands and the Paracas Peninsula. The peninsula’s Paracas Candelabra is a huge prehistoric geoglyph, etched into a hillside. (Additonal Optional tour available)

DAY 4 - Paracas - Ballestas Islands - Nazca

Begin the day with breakfast at the hotel. A transportation service will bring you to El Chaco pier to embark on a boat ride to the Ballestas Islands. The Ballestas are a collection of rocky islets with beautiful geographical formations, just a few kilometres off the western coast of Peru. The islands are the ideal habitat for various species of birds and an eclectic mix of wildlife like seals, boobies, pelicans, sea lions and the endangered Humboldt penguin. Cruise around the islands’ dramatic cliffs and watch large herds of noisy sea lions relaxing on the rocks, birds stretching their wings and if you’re lucky, dolphins near to your boat. While you will not disembark onto the islands, you will get startlingly close to this impressive array of wildlife. As you sail, you will also pass the Paracas Candelabra, a huge geoglyph that has been dated to around 200 BC, although the purpose and the creator of this three-pronged carving remain a mystery. At the end of your boat tour, you will be taken to the bus station for your transfer to Nazca.

Nazca is a small town that could easily go unnoticed on a map if it were not for the mysterious lines etched on the desert that has given the area worldwide fame. Although they are centuries old, how and why they were made is still an enigma. A monkey, a spider, a condor, all large figures, can be seen from the sky for you to try to uncover the mystery. If weather conditions and airspace permits, you will fly over recent findings in Palpa. After flying over the mountains, where 150-million-year-old fossils can be found, your flight comes to an end. Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the port of Puno, where a boat will take you to the Floating Islands of Uros. The Uros are an ancient society who populate a series of artificial islands built on the basis of the cattail reeds, which grow in the lake itself. The islands are built by weaving the reeds in places where it grows thicker, forming a natural layer. On top, the inhabitants build their houses, also made of reeds, and cook outdoors in order to prevent possible fires.

After an hour-and-a-half tour, continue your trip to the Island of Taquile. This island is Quechua speaking, unlike the other islands in the lake which are Aymara-speaking. A guided tour explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel, presenting its most prominent landmarks such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial, and the Burial Grounds. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and then board the train back to Cusco.

Travel Tips to Machu Picchu:

  • Carry the same travel document/passport that you presented to the agency, given that the train tickets and entrance to Machu Picchu will be issued with the same information.
  • In all train services to Machu Picchu, the passenger can carry only hand luggage (backpack, bag or briefcase) weighing no more than 5kg / 11lb on the train to / from Machu Picchu. You will find your luggage at the chosen hotel. Allowed size: 62 linear inches 157cm (height + length + width)
  • Bring bottle of water and a rain jacket, even if it looks like a beautiful sunny day. And speaking of sun, remember that the ozone layer over Peru is compromised. That, combined with the altitude, makes the sun extremely strong here so wear a hat and use plenty of high SPF sunscreen. And keep some one soles coins in your pocket. You’ll need them to access the lone bathroom at the entrance to the site. To use the bathroom or grab food, you’ll have to exit the gates, so bring your passport and hang onto your ticket. You’ll need to show both to re-enter the citadel.
  • If you experience altitude sickness, definitely find yourself some coca leaves. They are very cheap and you can find them anywhere. Chew on them or buy it in tea form. It will calm your stomach and ease your dizziness.
  • The current restrictions on visits to Machu Picchu allow a maximum stay of 4 hours in the citadel accompanied by a guide during the first entry. If the visitor tours an alternate route (Mountain Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu) the passenger will have 3 hours to for this purpose, additional to the 4 hours in the citadel. If the passenger wishes to enter the citadel again during the afternoon shift or the next day, he must acquire previously an additional ticket to enter in the new shift.
