WELCOME TO MILAN! Upon arriving at the airport, we will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel.
Hotel standard check in time 3pm. You will receive information for the start of your circuit in the afternoon or this will be on the informative signs in the hotel reception.
NOTE: IF YOU REQUESTED ADDITIONAL NIGHTS on arrival at the hotel you will have your booking made but the guide of your trip will normally not arrive until the start of the included activities. TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Lakes region. Mountain landscapes, alpine lakes, villages of great beauty.
Today we see one of the most beautiful scenic areas of Europe, the region of the Italian lakes. First we will travel to LAKE ORTA in ORTA DE SAN GIULIO, a well-preserved medieval city. We take a train ride to reach the center of the medieval town, and then a boat to the ISLAND OF SAN GIULIO, a little island on the lake with a monastery.
After this we go on to LAKE MAGGIORE, making a stop in STRESA, where we have the option to visit the Borromean Islands, and especially ISOLA BELLA with its gardens and palace (closed in the winter). Time for lunch. After lunch we go on to VERONA.
NOTE: during the winter months the Orta train does not operate. In that case you will access the medieval town by walking approximately 800 meters from the bus parking lot | On days of bad weather, the stop in Stressa may be shorter.
TODAY’S HIGLIGHTS: Visit of Venice. Murano glass factory in Venice.
We will have time to see Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet before leaving for VENICE, where we arrive at about 13.00. We include a boat trip to the area of St Mark’s Square, with a local guide we take a stroll around the City of Canals. There will also be a chance to admire the glasswork of Murano.
Afterwards enjoy some leisure time, maybe a trip in a gondola?
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: San Marino and its fortress. Beautiful landscapes crossing the Apennines.
Today we leave for PADUA, the destination of many pilgrims, where we will see the Saint’s Basilica. Then we will go on to the Adriatic coast to see SAN MARINO, a small independent country on top of a strongly fortified mountain. Time for lunch. We travel on through pretty mountain countryside, crossing the Apennines to GUBBIO, a marvelously preserved town in which the Palace of Consuls and the 12th century cathedral stand out. Continuing to PERUGIA.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Umbria region.
In the Umbría region, Perugia is a surprising mediaeval historic city. With a local guide we include a city tour (normally leaving the hotel at 08.00hrs), and on escalators we cross the rocky outcrop and see the surprising historic center of the city of chocolate!
Afterwards we travel to ASSISI, where we will have time for lunch and to see the Basilica of St Francis. In the afternoon, we travel to NAPLES. Arrival in the evening.
NOTE: In the basilica of St Francis of Assisi, discreet dress is required; make sure you remember this for this stage.
TODAY´S HIGHLIGHTS: Boat trip to the beautiful Capri and Sorrento.
Free time to have a walk in NAPLES before boarding.
Boat trip to the ISLAND OF CAPRI included. Free time for lunch on the island. You may take a boat to the Blue Grotto or the cable car to Capri city. We will get on board again and continue to SORRENTO, a charming, touristic town at the base of a cliff. Free time to stroll around. We will continue to the Gulf of Salerno. Sojourn in SALERNO.
NOTE: Part of this trip is by boat - Due to weather conditions, in some cases the ships that connect Naples with Capri or Capri with Sorrento do not operate; in these cases the route would be modified arriving at Sorrento by highway and visiting Amalfi instead of Capri.| During the winter months the schedules will be modified (leaving earlier from Naples) in order to take advantage of the sunlight.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Visit to Pompeii, the city covered by the ashes of Mount Vesuvius (entrance and guide included). Castel Gandolfo.
We will go to POMPEII, where you will have an opportunity to admire the remains of this Roman city which was covered by the ashes from Vesuvius volcano (guided tour and entrance included). After that we will visit NAPLES, one of the most fascinating cities in Italy and one of the oldest and most continuously inhabited in Europe. The old town of Naples is one of the largest in Europe and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Time to walk and have lunch. Continuation to CASSINO, you can visit the immense abbey. One of the toughest battles of World War II took place in this place. We will continue towards ROME. Arrival in the evening.
After breakfast, end of our services. Hotel standard check out time 11am.
