Arrive Launceston Airport. Self arrangement to hotel or may add in additional service (optional) for airport transfer.

Tasmania's second largest city is fun place to discover and to use as a base for exploring the Tamar Valley. Launceston has many delightful Victorian and Georgian heritage buildings to admire on a walking tour.

One of Australia's oldest cities, Launceston has one of the best-preserved early cityscapes in Australia with its elegant Colonial and Victorian architecture and century-old parks.

Launceston - Cradle Mountain World Heritage - Launceston

Cradle Mountain National Park ( tour code 765 ) | Depart Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun at 8.00am or early for Hotel pick up | Returns: 5.10pm 

Travel deep into the lush rainforest of Cradle Mountain National Park. Walk through the Enchanted Forest and around the spectacular scenery of Dove Lake and indulge on some of Australia's finest cheeses.

Highlights of this tour:-

  • Our tour starts as we travel south west from Launceston through green pastures, skirting the mountains of the Great Western Tiers towards Cradle Mountain National Park
  • We pass quaint and historical towns of Carrick, Hagley and Westbury and the scenic town of Deloraine renowned for their arts and crafts. 
  • Stop at Sheffield - the town of murals,
  • Here you can see the many intricate and life-like murals that adorn the town's buildings.  
  • As we traverse through dense forest and mountainous terrain look out for wombats, potaroos and wallabies that inhabit Cradle Mountain National Park.
  • Visit the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre for an insight and appreciation of the area.
  • Perhaps take a short stroll along Enchanted Forest Walk viewing pencil pines, lush forest and a spectacular waterfall
  • There is an opportunity to take a short stroll around Dove Lake as you take in views of the powerful and majestic Cradle Mountain (weather permitting
  • Maybe visit Waldheim Chalet (forest home) of Gustav Weindorfer
  • On the return to Launceston, visit Ashgrove Cheese Farm for some famous Tasmanian cheese 
  • Learn how cheese is made and sample the numerous variety of cheese made on the premises before heading back to Launceston

Launceston - Cataract Gorge - Launceston

At own leisure until afternoon for Cataract Gorge Cruise.

Starting at Design Tasmania, collect an Artbike, helmet and map and pedal your way around Launceston's cultural hotspots including the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Sawtooth, Gallery Pejean and 1842 Gallery. There's a no booking policy, first in, first served, and you can hire a bike for the day, overnight or weekend.

Just a short walk from the city centre, Cataract Gorge is a slice of wilderness right in the heart of town and Launceston's star natural attraction.

Enjoy an afternoon on the water and explore the magical Tamar River and Cataract Gorge on-board the Tamar Odyssey. Departing from Home Point, enjoy a 40km round trip down the river, see Tamar Island, various wildlife sanctuaries, historical properties, notable vineyards, St. Matthias Church and of course the spectacular Cataract Gorge.
During the 2.5 hour experience enjoy live historical commentary, afternoon tea, freshly brewed tea and coffee, local beer and wine tasting complimented with a delicious fresh fruit basket selection. The Tamar Odyssey also has a licensed bar on-board for those who’d like a top shelf tipple, glass of local wine or a cool refreshing beer – relax and explore the Tamar Valley from the water!

Launceston - Bay of Fires - Launceston

Visit one of the world's most beautiful beaches at the Bay of Fires. Departing from Launceston, travel amongst rainforests and farmlands of North East of Tasmania and enjoy a picnic lunch in an idyllic setting. This tour takes you through some of the prettiest locations in Tasmania, from the green rolling hills and fertile farmlands around Lilydale and Scottsdale, to the temperate rainforest of the Weldborough Pass, the spectacular coastal region of the Bay Of Fires, to the open grazing lands of the Fingal Valley and Northern.

Highlights of this tour:-

  • Leaving Launceston, enjoy the rolling green hills and fertile farm land of the north eastern countryside, passing through quaint towns including Lilydale
  • Bridestowe Lavender Farm (home to Bobbie Bear)
  • The commercial lavender is only in full flower December/January, but there is normally different varieties of flowering lavender near the gift shop all year round.
  • We have a quick stop in Scottsdale at the award winning Cottage Bakery for lunch supplies to enjoy at the Bay of Fires
  • Time permitting, we may be able to visit the tree carvings at the town of Legerwood* before taking a short walk through moss covered trees and ferns in the Myrtle Rainforest Walk on the Welborough Pass.
  • Pass through the tin mining towns of Branxholm and Derby
  • Cheese Tasting at Pyengana*
  • Arriving at one of the prettiest places in Tasmania, view the granite rocky outcrops covered with orange lichen that jut out into the ocean to separate a large collection of hidden beaches - this is the Bay Of Fires
  • We will call into Binalong Bay for a beach experience, then Harbour Point for great photo opportunities, and also a beach walk along the remote Taylor's Beach
  • After your beach experience, sample fresh oysters straight from the farm at Lease 65
  • View fishing boats in St. Helens
  • A chance to purchase seasonal fruit and ice-cream from Eureka's Fruit Farm
  • Head south to St Mary's Pass where we head inland to pass through the contrasting grazing lands of the Fingal Valley and Northern Midlands
  • Coal mining towns of Fingal and Avoca
  • Finish your day back in Launceston with memories of this pristine and unique area of Tasmania
