How involved you become on a farmstay is entirely up to you. Our farm hosts will encourage you to enjoy life on the farm and take part in a variety of fun and immersive experiences. You will gain an understanding of what life is like in rural Australia and see firsthand how the farms utilise their sustainability practices. A farmstay is also the perfect opportunity to escape the city crowds and relax as you breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the warm country hospitality. All farms are different and what activities you participate in will vary from season to season. Below is a sample of some of the many experiences available.

Sydney - Southern Highlands ( 1.5hrs or 2hrs by train )

Self arrangement to Sydney Central Station and take on Intercity Trains Network train (Southern Highlands Line or South Coast Line) to Southern Highlands Region. Train fare cost around A$ 9.00 per adult per way, child fare cost around A$ 4.50 per way. The train tickets are at your own expense. The farm host will provide a complimentary transfer to and from the nearest station. Farmstay nearest train station with detail of train to be advise to be advise once booking has been confirmed. Return home with farm host families to begin farmstay and farm activities.

You will need to purchase an Opal Card for your train journey. You can pick one up at Sydney's Central Station or one of the many Opal card retailers around Sydney. There is no charge for an Opal card, however the minimum value is AUD10 for an Adult Opal card and AUD5 for Child.

Click here to view/look at the farms and select your preferences. The most typical farms in Southern Highlands Regions are alpaca, crops, vineyard, beef cattle, horse, sheep and mixed farms. Southern Highlands is home to the towns of Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Berrima, Bundanoon and many other villages.

All farms can generally include the following standard activities: Farm tour, collect fresh eggs, feed animals, picking fresh fruit/vegetables for dinner, wildlife spotting such as kangaroos and star gazing.

Departing from the Sydney, sit back and relax as the local train transports you to the farmstay region where you will be met by your host. Breathe in the fresh country air and take in the rural surroundings before settling into your private room and exploring your host’s farm. End the day getting to know your host family over a delicious home-style dinner. The more adventurous travellers can join their hosts in the kitchen, and try their hand at cooking some local Australian cuisine using fresh produce sourced directly from the farm. Or take a leisurely walk in the natural outdoors before dinner, enjoying the peaceful pace of life. End the day with some stargazing by an open campfire.

Breakfast and farm activities with farm host family.

Wake up to the sounds of native birds and the Australian countryside before heading out to collect freshly-laid eggs or fresh vegetables from the garden, which your hosts cook up for breakfast. Spend the morning hand-feeding farm animals, playing with the family pets and picking fresh fruit and vegetables.

After a gourmet lunch, around 2pm Farm host will send you to the nearest train station, farewell to your farm host. Depart at local train station and then make the return journey back to Sydney city.
