1
Lima (Arrival)

Upon arrival at Lima airport, you will be met by local representative and escorted to your hotel. Local representative will brief you around the attractions and facilities that the city has.

Rest of the day is free at own leisure, you might explore this beautiful city.

In the north is the city of Caral, the oldest civilization of America, and to the south is the Archaeological Complex of Pachacamac. Lima's history predates the colonial presence in the country. The establishment of the viceroyalty transformed the city into the main political and administrative center of South America. During this period, significant churches, monasteries, mansions and balconies were built. The arrival of modernity didn’t transform the historic center, which is recognized as a World Heritage Site.

Museums with great works of art, archaeological sites, beaches, the boardwalk, valleys, natural reserves, the nightlife, the thrill of adventure sports, and the exquisite cuisine gives Peru’s capital an authentic personality and makes tourism in Lima a unique experience in the country.

Lima - Arequipa

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transfer to the airport to catch a flight to Arequipa in the south of the country. (flight duration about 90 minutes, domestic air ticket at ADD ON OPTIONAL)

On arrival in Arequipa, you are met by a representative and transferred to your selected hotel in the city. In the afternoon, head for a tour of Peru’s third-biggest city, which is popularly known as the ‘White City’ because of the sillar volcanic rock used in many of its most famous landmarks. Start off at the main square, Plaza de Armas, admiring its elegant colonial buildings such as the neo-Renaissance style basilica cathedral before visiting the sensational Santa Catalina Convent, which for centuries was a forbidden city within a city, closed off from prying eyes and the influences of the outside world. The convent, founded in the 16th century, was an almost self-sustained village, made up of houses for the nuns and their servants, cloisters, plazas and narrow streets, kitchens, refectories and more. The nuns’ families paid vast dowries for their daughters to be admitted, which added to the convent’s wealth and prestige. Nowadays, to wander through its brightly colored alleys is to step back centuries in time to colonial Peru.

Continue to the Church of the Company, perhaps the greatest masterpiece of Peruvian baroque, to study its fascinating façade. The vestry is particularly beautiful with its cupola and walls covered in murals representing the jungle while the Jesuit seminary is famous for its beautiful principal cloister. Finally, head to the residential districts of Yanahuara and Carmen Alto, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Mt Misti volcano rising above the city on the horizon.

Colca Valley - Canyon Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, prepare for a day of high drama with a trip to the breathtaking Condor Cross lookout. Take a deep breath and appreciate the sheer vastness of the Colca Valley, which is one of the world's deepest canyons with a maximum depth of more than 4,160 meters – twice that of the Grand Canyon. The thrill of the experience is enhanced by the natural spectacle of huge condors flying over the canyon. Watch in awe as these graceful birds of prey glide over the canyon, patrolling it with military discipline. Descend to the valley floor to discover some of the rustic towns on the banks of the River Colca such as Chivay, Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma and Yanque, where quaint colonial churches are as much as part of the scenery as the peaks of the Andes. There are also stops at the lookouts of Antahuilque and Choquetico to admire majestic views of the valley. Continue to the Ocolle lookout to admire the pre-Inca agricultural terraces known as ‘the Amphitheatre’ and then hike to the Uyo Uyo archaeological site. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

Transfer to the shore of Lake Titicaca after breakfast to enjoy a motor boat cruise, lighting at a number of the islands in the lake. The first stop is at the unique Uros Islands. There are more than 40 of these floating islets, which are made entirely from totora reeds plucked from the lake. Meet the Aymara-speaking islanders, learn all about the making of the islands, their lifespan and upkeep while exploring these marvels of engineering made using only primitive materials and methods. Board the boat again to continue the voyage of discovery at timeless Taquile island, where the Quechua-speaking residents have maintained their ancient social system and earned a reputation for their fine hand-weaving technique. Cusco

After breakfast in hotel, enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour starts with a visit to Santo Domingo Convent, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca Coricancha temple. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun and its foundations are still prominent at the base of the convent. Ancient chronicles say the temple was covered in gold leaf and filled with golden representations of nature. Continue to the Plaza de Armas to visit the Cathedral. It features an elaborate Renaissance façade and, like other important monuments in the city was built over a demolished Inca temple. Head to the hills above Cusco to visit the remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, whose imposing ramparts offer a stunning panoramic view of Cusco, and the ruins of the temple and amphitheater of Qenqo, where it is believed the Incas practiced agricultural rituals. Finally, visit Puka Pukara (‘Red fortress’ in Quechua) an Inca military complex located on a prominent hill. Its dwellings squares, bathrooms, aqueducts, walls and towers can still be appreciated. Return to and drop off at your hotel.

Cusco - Sacred Valley

Breakfast at the hotel. Start your day at the Pisac Market, which has stands that exhibit and sell products manufactured by residents of the area. The Pisac Market is one of the most famous markets in the Cusco region, drawing many visitors to its famous Sunday market when indigenous Quechua communities from the surrounding highlands come to Pisac to sell their produce and stock up on supplies for the week. Beautiful alpaca textiles, musical instruments, paintings, carvings, necklaces and replicas of old Inca pieces are sure to catch your eye.

Continue to the Pisac Archaeological Site, which has the largest complex of terraces in the area and is an agricultural masterpiece of the Inca Empire. Travelling through the Urubamba Valley, starting at the town of Pisac, enables tourists to visit an archaeological area in the highest mountain areas. Here there are many different buildings, plazas, temples, pools and other structures, all built between the 10th and 11th centuries AD. Inca architecture continues to stun admirers with the technique used to build its enormous walls, palaces and turrets with stone blocks, all done without any type of cement or adhesive. The Intihuatana solar observatory receives the greatest admiration. Fine quality stone carved into the shape of many hands forming a semi-circle.

Next, have lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a visit Ollantaytambo, making a series of stops at points of interest. The town of Ollantaytambo is a typical example of Incan urban planning, whose present-day residents still live in accordance with their old traditions. Inca ruler Pachacutec conquered the town, destroyed it and built a new one, absorbing it as part of his empire. This town exhibits one of the most remarkable complexes of the Inca Empire. Return to your hotel in Sacred Valley.

Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes

After breakfast at the hotel, take a train to Ollanta Station to board the train to Aguas Calientes, the nearest town to Machu Picchu. Following a scenic journey through dramatic Andean landscapes, arrive at the station in Aguas Calientes. Here you board a coach for a 25-minutes ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries until American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacutec as a holiday retreat yet within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it so it was spared the destruction they wrought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. A guide explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and the most prominent landmarks among the 200 or so buildings such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, and the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch at the famous Café Inkaterra, a beautiful thatched-roof restaurant hemmed in between the railway and a mountain.

Travel Tips to Machu Picchu:

  • Carry the same travel document/passport that you presented to the agency, given that the train tickets and entrance to Machu Picchu will be issued with the same information.
  • In all train services to Machu Picchu, the passenger can carry only hand luggage (backpack, bag or briefcase) weighing no more than 5kg / 11lb on the train to / from Machu Picchu. You will find your luggage at the chosen hotel. Allowed size: 62 linear inches 157cm (height + length + width)
  • Bring bottle of water and a rain jacket, even if it looks like a beautiful sunny day. And speaking of sun, remember that the ozone layer over Peru is compromised. That, combined with the altitude, makes the sun extremely strong here so wear a hat and use plenty of high SPF sunscreen. And keep some one soles coins in your pocket. You’ll need them to access the lone bathroom at the entrance to the site. To use the bathroom or grab food, you’ll have to exit the gates, so bring your passport and hang onto your ticket. You’ll need to show both to re-enter the citadel.
  • If you experience altitude sickness, definitely find yourself some coca leaves. They are very cheap and you can find them anywhere. Chew on them or buy it in tea form. It will calm your stomach and ease your dizziness.

Aguas Calientes - Cusco

Breakfast at the hotel is followed by a free & easy morning. We strongly recommend that you wake early today and make your way to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu (at your own arrangement/ expenses). This is a genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience. The best views are from Huayna Picchu, which is about 360 meters above Machu Picchu and boasts an underground temple complex, and Inti Punku, which offers even better views from some 390 meters above the citadel. Another option is the Inca Bridge, a secret military trail, which controlled access to the citadel. In the afternoon, return by train to Cusco.
